Operating in a remote, Northern British Columbia underground mining environment on a two week in / two week out shift rotation, the Heavy-Duty Mechanic is a key role of the mine maintenance functions at the Silvertip Operation. 

 

Responsibilities: 

  • Diagnose and complete repairs on equipment such as DD321 & DD422I electric/hydraulic Jumbo Drills, DS411 Rock Bolters, TH430 underground Haul Trucks, LH514 underground Scoops and other various underground equipment
  • Diagnose and complete repairs on fleet of surface equipment such as on CAT 320 Excavators, 420 Backhoe, D7 Dozer, 740 Rock Trucks as well as a wide range of Heavy Trucks like Western Star, International and Mack
  • Diagnose perform electrical, suspension, powertrain and engine repairs on light vehicle fleet of Ford F-150’s, F-250’s and F-350’s
  • Work on Tier 2, 3 and 4 diesel engines and emission systems
  • Perform both shop and field work in underground and surface environments
  • Conduct preventive maintenance and regular equipment service procedures
  • Maintain digital and paper maintenance records
  • Experience with Ansul Fire Suppression Systems
  • Perform daily and weekly pre-operational checks, and operate equipment according to Safe Operating Procedures
  • Diagnose faults or malfunctions to determine required repairs using engine diagnostic equipment such as computerized test equipment and calibration devices
  • Ensure equipment deficiencies and operational issues are reported and communicated clearly and accurate parts lists are provided
  • Accurately interpret and follow OEM manuals and technical maintenance instructions
  • Support other departments when required, such as Fixed Maintenance and Site Services
  • Light welding and fabrication repairs as required
  • Complete report sheets and daily logbooks

 

Required Qualifications & Skills:

  • Sandvik experience
  • CAT experience preferred
  • Valid Red Seal or Interprovincial Journeyman's Certificate as a Heavy Duty Mechanic (Off-Road)
  • Fundamental knowledge in CAN bus Electrical Systems
  • Excellent hydraulic troubleshooting skills
  • 5+ years of experience as a Heavy Duty Mechanic\
  • Basic welding skills
  • Underground mining industry experience
  • Valid driver's license
  • Physically fit to perform the duties of the position
  • 5+ years of experience U/G maintenance an asset

 

Additional Information: This role is required to work a two week on/off schedule, working 12 hours per day at a remote mine camp. Monthly bonus offered with this position.
